Zack Phonesavanh wasn’t optimistic about the Merced United U13 Matrix team’s chances in their first year of play.
Along with Jon Ly and Gabe Mejia, Phonesavanh believed they’d put together a talented travel soccer team, but the leap from recreation play to competitive is a big one.
“To be honest, with this being the first year going to competitive, I thought we would be a mediocre team,” Phonesavanh said. “I was thinking .500 in league at best.”
The Ripon Lady Cyclones are looking for girls for the 10U and 13U age groups to complete their 2012 Spring Summer travel ball teams. The 13U team is focusing on girls born either in 1998 or 1999. The 13U is comprised of a group of the younger players from last year's IFA West Coast World Series 12U team. If you are interested in trying out or you have questions, please contact Coaching Director, Frank Gonzales at 209-629-0312. We arrived at the sports complex in Elk Grove, CA. at dusk. The suns setting was quickly dropping the temperature. The U14g division would be the last set of CYSA Association Cup Tournament quarter final matches at the complex this night.
The turf fields were pristene under the stadium lights. The Merced United Magic were focused and anxious to do what they came to do - play soccer.

Fall passes, winter arrives, soccer continues.
The CYSA Karcher League culminates with the 'End of the Season' Tournament. Held the weekend before Thanksgiving in Stockton, just as mornings turn frosty and the grass crunches under your steps at the early games.

For this coach, I've never been in a more comfortable uncomfortable situation. If you see me sitting down (comfortably) on the sidelines at our games, please don't think I'm apathetic or that I've lost hope. I've simply come to believe in the 11 Magic players on the field.
Most coaches, if placed in our situation, would be in crisis mode, burning up the phones making calls for more players (I know, I've made my inquiries). Yet, somehow, we have arrived at the end of the Fall season a better, stronger team.
Tri-City Bulldogs brought back to 2 Superbowl victory this weekend. Bulldogs novice defeated Denair Lions 20-19. Bulldogs Varsity defeated Denair 26-20.

Hello, winter!
The cold, early morning in Manteca was the kind that made you want to stay in your warm vehicle and snooze until the sun breaks through the overcast. The chilly wind was like a slap on the face as players made their way onto the field for warm-ups. The Merced United Magic U14 girl soccer team made their final trip to Manteca for 2 CYSA D8 Karcher League games against the first place Manteca Rangers 1 team and the always tough Modesto Ajax Premier team.
